Washington Spirit strike a two-year contract with Kumi Yokoyama

The Washington Spirit have informed that they’ve struck a two-year deal with the Japan national team attacker, Kumi Yokoyama.

Undoubtedly, she would continue her career with the

Spirit

continuing after growing into a popular player in her first NWSL season.

“After a year of adjustment to the particularly high demands of our league, we are hoping to get significantly more production out of Kumi this season,”

Spirit head coach, Richie Burke announced.

“She finished with a flourish last year at Sky Blue and gave us a real taste of her undeniable quality. Bringing her back on an extended deal was really a no-brainer for our club — and I’m really looking forward to seeing her pick up where she left off at the end of last season.”

The 27-year-old started eight of a possible nine matches for the Spirit, all four Fall Series matches of last year included.

Through the Fall Series, she netted a game-winning goal against Sky Blue FC while performing 6 major passes over the course of the NWSL’s fall competition.

The deal with

Yokoyama

means the

Spirit

have 19 players under contract, three of them (

Yokoyama

, Saori Takarada, and Julia Roddar) play internationally.

Reportedly, the Spirit are set on bringing most of their draft picks in from day one of the pre-season, which starts this Monday.
