Omar Elabdellaoui making positive recovery after fireworks accident

Galatasaray defender, Omar Elabdellaoui, rushed to hospital on New Year Eve as a firework blew up in his hands, causing serious injuries to his face and hands.

According to doctors, the 29-year-old has been making good progress. In a statement, Prof. Dr.

Vedat Kaya

said:

“So far, everything is in a positive way. There is a certain improvement in vision, especially in the left eye. There is also a great recovery in the right eye.”

Kaya

previously casted doubt over

Elabdellaoui’s

long term prognosis, he had said previously:

"There are injuries in both eyes.

“His current situation is better than yesterday. He has the ability to see, but how will his condition be in the future? It is difficult to say anything now.”

Galatasaray did their best to quell fears over the player’s condition and stressed that there was no threat to his life right after the incident.

"Omar Elabdellaoui is in good health,”

a statement from club president

Mustafa Cengiz

read.

“It is still early to talk [about his long-term health], but he is getting better. The hope should never be lost. I think that we have to wait one or two weeks.”

Since joining

Galatasaray

from

Olympiakos

in August,

Elabdellaoui

has made seven appearances for the Turkish side this season. The Norway international spent 6 years at the Greek club, making over 100 appearances.

He made a permanent move to

Eintracht Braunschweig

in 2013, and after a season at Germany, he joined

Olympiakos
