They agreed not to pursue him- Reds fury at Troisi’s transfer

James Troisi has joined Western City Wanderers less than a day after terminating his contract with Adelaide United.

The 32-year-old’s move to

Western Sydney Wanderers

has been a disappointing transfer for his former club

Adelaide United

as it has happened after Western Sydney’s reported promise to not pursue the player. Adelaide terminated

Troisi

’s contract on Monday only two weeks from the start of the new A-League season and the player was announced to have signed a two-season contract with Western Sydney on Tuesday. Shortly before the announcement, Reds football director

Bruce Dijete

spoke about Troisi’s departure from the club and his possible destination.

"I'd be extremely disappointed if it is Western Sydney because they enquired about James a couple of months ago and we wrote back to them that he's a required player and we'd appreciate if they did not approach the player,

"They subsequently agreed to that and thanked us for the feedback."

Djite believes that Troisi’s transfer underlines the need for a transfer system in Australian football.

"The older players get, the cheaper they get and it's impossible to get a transfer fee within the A-League," he said.

"That's something that I know Football Federation Australia is looking at, implementing some sort of domestic transfer system.

"That would have been beneficial I think in this circumstance and something that needs to come in.

"But at this point in time, unless they're going overseas, it's impossible to get any fees."

Western City Wanderes will play their first match of the new A-League season against Macarthur as they hope to have find a reliable attacking option in their new signing.
