Levein's opinion of the signing of Celtic defender Shane Duffy
Craig Levein has questioned the signing of Celtic defender Shane Duffy, suggesting the on-loan defender does not fit in Celtic’s style of play under Neil Lennon and saying his presence does not “make sense”.
The 28-year-old Duffy is a permanent
Celticfan and fulfilled a childhood dream when he left Brighton for Celtic on a season-long loan in the summer.
Many Hoops fans were happy upon his arrival, with the major feeling that he would fill the gap.
After some months, the Ireland captain was dismissed by Lennon. He has failed to start
Celtic’s last three games.
Former Hearts and Scotland manager,
Levein
expressed why the addition of
Duffydid not make sense when he appeared at Parkhead.
“
Shane Duffy is a really, really good player,
”
Levein
mentioned.
“
But he played in a Brighton team that defended deep. Celtic’s defense are always going to be close to the halfway line. Celtic’s center-backs have to be able to run. They have to be quick. Shane Duffy doesn’t fit what Celtic do, he’s very good, but it doesn’t make sense to me.
”
As Lennon’s spell being the
Celtic
manager is getting unrecoverable,
Duffyhas the credit and ability to show fans and coaching staff why he deserves to be back.
