A brief look at Megan Rapinoe career stats

Starting amateur football playing at an early age, she  Chicago Red Stars as her first senior career team in 2009. In 2010 Megan signed an agreement with expansion team Philadelphia Independence. After playing four games with the team and scoring once, while she was away with the USA national team for the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup, Rapinoe was sold to MagicJack with a contract the was said to be $100,000. It would be interesting to know that at the time the average salary of a female footballer was $25,000.

Unfortunately at the end of the 2011 season, Rapinoe was forced to continue her football career in Australia, as on October 25, 2011, the WPS decided to end the MagicJack franchise. She was then signed by the Australian W-League team

Sydney FC

as a guest player for two games. After the two games, she joined Seattle Sounders Women, but again after only two games Megan left Seattle to move to France and play for Olympique Lyonnais Féminin in Division 1 Féminine. She signed her new contract in January 2013 for a monthly €11,000 salary.

It would be interesting to know that Rapinoe has also taken part in the UEFA Women's Champions League during that time, making her debut on March 20 in their match against FC Malmö. Lyon reached the final that year, with Rapinoe becoming the fifth American woman in history to play in a Champions League final. However Megan did not stay with Lyon much longer after the tournament and in January 2014 announced that she will soon return to her country to join the Seattle Reign, where she still kicks the ball. As always she made a huge change when she joined Seattle and helped them to improve their goal-scoring ability. Interestingly, in September 2019, the Reign FC announced Rapinoe, along with 11 others, as a Reign FC Legend, joining the 36 previous legends they had.

Ok. Without further ado, let’s go through the famous Megan Rapinoe Quotes.

Best Megan Rapinoe quotes on soccer

“I think it’s absolutely absurd that we’re playing on turf, and it’s really a slap in the face to women’s football by FIFA and just a show of disrespect.”

“I play a certain style. I’m not willing to compromise that part of me.”

“Over the years, I have really figured out what works for me. It’s not about what anyone else is doing. I can’t worry about whether I am doing everything that another player is doing, which can be hard sometimes. I have to trust my training and know my body and figure out what will get the best out of me.”

“If there’s one thing this team doesn’t lack, it’s competitiveness and a desire to win. No matter if we come off a win or come off a loss, it seems like we don’t really care. We’re always motivated to win.”

“Being a winger or a wide mid, I have to run continuously for 90 minutes, which not only takes endurance but also strength in my legs to be able to be explosive for 90 minutes. I think weight training has really allowed me to sustain for those 90 minutes.”

“I’ve had to learn how to listen to my body over the years and figure out how it all works together. I’m not invincible, so focusing on training my whole body and injury prevention have been extremely important.”

“Always believe in your game.”

“Be honest about how you approach failure. Don’t just be critical of yourself, because that can be self-serving. Approach it honestly, assess your performance, and assess the areas where you have fallen short. Correct them and move on. Don’t dwell on it. Don’t hold on to it.”

“Real change lies within all of us. It is in the choices we make every day. It’s in how we talk, who we hire, and what we permit others to say in our presence. It’s in reading more, thinking more, considering a different perspective. At its simplest, it’s in whether we’re willing to spend even five minutes a day thinking about how we can make the world better.”

“Always believe in your game.”

“I’m a pretty open book, so not being out publicly felt inauthentic. Hopefully we can get to a point where your personal life isn’t anybody else’s business, but until then, it’s less about people having to know about your sexuality than standing up for what’s right and fighting for equality.”

Before, everything was going how it was supposed to be, and I wasn’t really appreciative of what I was doing and what it took to be there. The injury grounded me in a lot of different ways. The rehab process makes you stronger on all fronts, mentally and physically. I feel stronger and a better person for it. I would never wish it on anyone, but I don’t wish I could take it back.”

Megan Rapinoe quotes on equal rights

“The more I’ve been able to learn about gay rights and equal pay and gender equity and racial inequality, the more that it all intersects. You can’t really pick it apart. It’s all intertwined.”

“Being a woman, we talk about equal pay all the time. We’re not talking about if you’re black or if you are Latina. I would like to get back to that and improving the relationship between the police community and the community of color. I don’t know exactly all the right things to say, but I want to engage in that conversation.”

“Honestly, I feel like we are a walking protest. The fact that we’re women professional athletes says that in and of itself. We’ve been feeling the inequality; we’ve been struggling with pay equality or whatever it is, or sexism in sports.”

“It’s really obvious that we have very serious inequality in this country across many different spectrums. Yes, we can talk about the form of protest or the way it’s done or this or that. But it’s still not really the conversation that I think we desperately need to have more of in this country.”

“If we want to be proud to be from a country like America and all the things that we hang our hats on, like diversity, equality, land of the free and home of the brave, it’s everybody’s responsibility to ensure that everyone in the country is being afforded the same rights.”

“When I take a knee, I am facing the flag with my full body, staring straight into the heart of our country’s ultimate symbol of freedom – because I believe it is my responsibility, just as it is yours, to ensure that freedom is afforded to everyone in this country.”

“I have chosen to kneel because I simply cannot stand for the kind of oppression this country is allowing against its own people.”

“Being female and an advocate for equal opportunities, I want to see an equal representation in people applying for the head coach job for the women’s team.”

“We need a more substantive conversation around race relations and the way people of color are treated.”

“Everyone who has a pair of eyes in this country understands the racial tensions and the issues we have are very serious and they’re not going away. Just because we had Barack Obama as our president and, on paper, everything looks equal, it’s very clearly not.”
