Copa America 2021 predictions: who will win Copa America 2021?

A look at the chances of the top teams in this year's Copa America to have a guess at who will win the Copa America title in 2021 and which teams will qualify for the semi-finals.

The 2021

Copa America

was planned to be held in the summer of 2020, but like the European Championships, it was post ponded a year due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

The Pandemic also forced the CONMEBOL to change the hosts three times. First it was planned to be held at Argentina and Colombia. Then Colombia was removed as co-host amid ongoing protests against President Ivan Duque Marquez, while on 30 May 2021, Argentina was removed due to COVID-19 issues. The following day CONMEBOL confirmed Brazil as host of the tournament.

Brazil are the defending champions after winning the previous edition, which was back in 2019. They are considered the main favorites, regardless of the fact that they will host the tournament for the second time in a row.

The likes of Argentina, Colombia, Chile and Uruguay can certainly dream of winning the title, but their recent forms do not support their cause. And like many other editions of this exciting tournament, there will be room for a couple of dark horses. Teams like Ecuador, Peru, Paraguay and Venezuela will fancy their chances to upset the heavy forces and reach the latter stages.

Many South American star players are in the form of their lives and will have a chance to further make history. Neymar, Gabriel Jesus and Firmino of Brazil, Messi, Di Maria and Aguero of Argentina and

Edinson Cavani

and Luis Suarez of Uruguay are some of the biggest players fans are excited to see at the tournament. Now let's get to the point of the article and see

who is going to win Copa

America 2021

.

A Chance to make history: who will win the 2021 Copa America?

In the following article, we will look into the current form of the top teams of the South America to try to see who is going to win the 2021 Copa America?

Colombia

Colombia

is the first team we analyze in our article on

who will win the Copa America 2021

. They are in group A and will play against Brazil, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela. They will start their campaign against Ecuador.

In the last edition of the tournament, Colombia topped their group with some impressive performances, including a 2-0 win against Argentina. However, they faltered at the first knock-out stage and lost on penalties to Chile.

Recent form

Colombia has been one of the biggest forces in South America in the past few decades, however, they are currently experiencing one of their worst spells in recent memory. They did so badly in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers that they had to fire their veteran coach, Carlos Quiroz. A move which has not changed their form for the better.

A good run in Brazil this summer can boost their morale for the remainder of the World Cup qualifiers.

Colombia has gone on a run of one win, two draws and two defeats in their last 5 games. Their worst defeat was a 6-1 loss against Ecuador back in December 2020, which resulted in the sacking of Quiroz.

Star players

For the first time in many years, Colombia's biggest star, James Rodriguez has been left out of their final squad. Their veteran goalkeeper,

David Ospina

is the captain of the team, while Tottenham's Davinson Sanchez is considered as their biggest creative force. Juventus Midfield, Juan Cuadrado has also had a very good season and will be looking to continue his fine form in what would probably be his last participation at the Copa America.

Chances for the title

Colombia is certainly considered a favorite when it comes to guessing who will win the Copa America 2021, but we don’t think they can reach the Semi-final. A quarter final elimination is more likely.

Chile

The second team on our list of who will win Copa America 2021,

Chile

is experiencing the same scenario of Colombia in that they have lost the magic they enjoyed in the past decades but is hopeful they can turn things around with their new youngsters.

Chile won the title two times in 2015 and 2016, both by defeating Argentina in the finals. They also reached the last four in 2019, but eventually settled for the fourth place after losses against Peru and Argentina. They will try to reproduce the magic they showed in the last three editions of the tournament, but a very big challenge is awaiting them this time. Especially since they have been very poor in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Recent form

Chile has won 2 of their last 5 games. They have had two draws and one defeat, against Venezuela in December 2020. They started the World Cup qualifiers in a very bad form, losing to Uruguay and drawing with Colombia, but since then they have been able to climb the table to seventh place, two points behind the play-off spot.

Star players

The core of the team is the same as before and star players like Claudio Bravo, Alexis Sanchez and

Arturo Vidal

are hoping for a good campaign in their last participation in the tournament.

Chances for the title

Chile can never be written off when guessing who is going to win Copa America 2021, but we think it will be highly unlikely. They will probably qualify easily from their group, but we simply don't fancy them in the semis.

Ecuador

Ecuador

is experiencing one of the best spells of their history and are sitting comfortably at the third place in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers table. They are drawn in Group A alongside Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela. If they continue their recent form, they can certainly reach the knock-out stage, which is considered a big achievement for them, especially since they finished last in their group in the 2019 edition of the tournament.

Recent form

Ecuador entered the tournament with a run of three wins and two losses. They humiliated Colombia with a 6-1 win back in December 2020, but since the restart of the international football, they have suffered two consecutive defeats, first by 2 goals against Brazil and then by 2 goals to 1 against Peru. They are hoping to rediscover their form and make history by reaching the last stages of the tournament.

Star players

Two of Ecuador's best players,

Diego Palacios

and Xavier Arreaga are currently playing at MLS. While their best midfield, Moises Caicedo is a player at Premier League club, Brighton. With 78 international games under his belt, Christian Noboa is their most experienced player.

Chances for the title

Although they have enjoyed a renaissance recently, it is very unlikely for Ecuador to win the title. However, they have what it takes to be the surprise team of the tournament and reach the latter stages.

Uruguay

The Copa America record winners,

Uruguay

is another team we analyze in our article on who

will win the Copa America title in 2021

. They have won the title 15 times in their history, one more than Argentina and 6 times more than Brazil. However, it has been ten years since their last title and the best stars of their golden generation is reaching the end of their careers.

Uruguay is drawn in Group B alongside Argentina, Bolivia, Chile and Paraguay. In 2019, they topped their group with ease, but was shockingly eliminated in the quarter finals with a defeat on penalties against eventual runners-up, Peru.

Recent form

Uruguay enters the competition on the back of two goalless draws against Paraguay and Venezuela. They also have two wins and one loss (2-0 against Brazil) in their last 5 games. Considering their standards, Uruguay has been poor in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. They are currently at the fourth place with 8 points from 6 games, 10 points behind leaders Brazil.

Uruguay manager, Oscar Tabarez has been at the helm for an incredible 15 years. He has guided Uruguay to many major achievements and is looking forward for another successful campaign.

Star players

Uruguay's veteran striker due,

Luis Suarez

and Edinson Cavani are still their biggest threat upfront, while Diego Godin will marshals the defense line. Fede Valverde has been the hottest prospect of Uruguay football in recent years and is looking to prove his class and intelligence in this tournament.

Chances for the title

Alongside Brazil, Uruguay has the most star studded squad in the competition, but the bulk of the team is aging and it is to be seen if they can perform at their highest level after a long season at the club level. We think they have whatever it takes to win the 16th title of their history, but a third place finish is more probable for them.

Argentina

Argentina

will play in Group B against Bolivia, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay. Argentina had the chance to win the Copa America three times in the past 6 years, but were left heartbroken every time. They reached the final of the 2015 and 2016 editions, both of which they lost to Chile. Then in 2019 they reached the semi-final, before being eliminated against hosts and eventual champions, Brazil. With Lionel Messi in the final years of his career, they knows that it is going to be their last chance to break the curse and win their first major title since 1993.

Recent form

Argentina enters the tournament on the back of two wins and three draws in their last 5 games. They have been unbeaten in their last 13 games and their last defeat was against Brazil in the semi-final of the 2019 Copa America.

Lionel Scaloni side has shown they have collective strength, although they star players are aging and many of their best players, Like Paolo Dybala and Mauro Icardi have not been called up to the tournament.

Star players

At 34,

Lionel Messi

is still among the top players in the world and is hoping to break his curse at the international level and win his first major trophy with Argentina. His soon to be teammate at Barcelona, Sergio Aguero, and PSG's Angel Di Maria will be his partners up front, and Lautaro Martinez will be hopeful to continue the fine form he has enjoyed at the club level with Inter Milan.

Chances for the title

Argentina might have the best attacking players in the tournament, but their squad lack balance and experience in the defense and midfield lines. They will fancy reaching their fifth final in the 21st century, but winning the title is not going to be easy for them. We think they will finish as runners-up.

Brazil

The last team in our article on

who will win Copa America 2021

is Tite's amazing

Brazil

side that is the defending champions and the hosts. Brazil have been on a good form in the past few years. They have successfully upgraded themselves after their humiliating 7-1 defeat to Germany in the semi-final of the 2014 World Cup.

Brazil have been unstoppable in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. They are sitting comfortably at the top after winning all of their first 6 games.

Brazil will face Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru at the group stage. They don’t seem to face big challenges on their way to the knock-out stages and if they get good draws, they can easily reach the semi-final.

Recent form

Brazil has won all of his last 6 games. Their last defeat was a 1-0 loss in a friendly against Argentina in 2019. They have not conceded any goals in their last 4 games and is coming into the tournament with high spirits.

Star players

After missing out Brazil's 2019 winning campaign,

Neymar

is back and is hoping to guide his nation to their 10th Copa America title in their history. Brazil have good players in every position and is the most balanced team in the region. Gabriel Jesus, Roberto Firmino, Fernandinho and Allison Becker are looking forward to their second Copa America experience in two years and can be key for the team on their quest for defending their title on their home soil.

Chances for the title

Considering their consistent form in the past few years Brazil seems to have the best chance when it comes to deciding who will win the Copa America 2021.
