Guardiola: I’ll rather go to Italy on holiday than to coach
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says it is unlikely he ever manage an Italian club in his career.
Guardiola’s side beat Leipzig with seven goals on Tuesday to secure their place in the
Champions Leaguequarter-finals stage.
After the game, Guardiola, who played for two Italian clubs Brescia and
Roma, was asked by Italian broadcasters whether he’d return to Italy as a coach in the future.
He said:
“I spent two years in Italy, I have many friends there, especially in Brescia. Every nice thing happening in Italy makes me happy, but I think I’ll rather go to Italy on holiday than to coach.”
Guardiola also was asked about the state of Italian football following Milan and Inter‘s qualification for the Champions League quarter-finals.
He replied:
“Napoli are perhaps the best team in Europe this season. In terms of playing style, they are close to Arsenal. Then Milan are back, Inter too. They have both qualified.”
Former Barcelona manager also praised Brighton coach Roberto De Zerbi and claimed he is changing English football.
“We have an Italian coach here, he’s called Roberto De Zerbi and he’s changing many things in English football, playing marvellous football, he is doing incredibly well,”
he said.
Guardiola played in 24 Serie A games for Brescia and in 4 matches for Roma, scoring three goals. The Spanish manager recently extended his contract with
Manchester Cityuntil 2025.
