Man Utd 2-0 Newcastle United: Erik ten Hag wins first trophy at United

United’s six-year drought of trophies has come into an end as they win the EFL Cup at Wembley Stadium.

Manager Erik ten Hag has delivered as the Dutchman wins first trophy at Manchester United. The Red Devils beat Newcastle United 2-0 at Wembley Stadium to lay claim to the EFL Cup.

Newcastle

started the game a bit better than United and it seemed at times that they would be the first to score. However, ten Hag’s men did what they do best in this season, which is seizing their chances as often as they could.

One of those chances came when Luke Shaw delivered a perfect ball from a free-kick into the Newcastle box for Casemiro to head it home. The goal was a bit against the run of play but Man Utd managed to control the game pretty soon after.

United goal hero Marcus Rashford then managed to deliver once again as his shot was deflected by Sven Botman and went into Karius’ goal, making it 2-0 for ten Hag’s men before the half time.

The goals came in the span of six minutes and delivered the first major trophy for

Manchester United

since 2017. Newcastle didn’t manage to recover from the goals and must wait a bit longer to end their 68-year trophyless run.

The Red Devils can still deliver on other competitions as well, as they are the only English team to still be competing in every domestic competition as well as in Europe.
