Azpilicueta thanks hospital staff and Chelsea medics after recovering from head injury

Cesar Azpilicueta regained consciousness after a horrific injury in the match against Southampton.

is awake again and has thanked the club’s medics, his teammates and the hospital staff following a horrific head injury which left the Spaniard in the hospital.

Azpilicueta took a foot in the head as he clashed with Sekou Mera in Chelsea’s 1-0 loss to Southampton. He was knocked unconscious and was transported to St Mary's Hospital in west London.

He became responsive in the hospital as reported by Potter following the match. Later Azplilicueta himself posted an update on social media about his situation.

"Hi everyone! Thank you all for your love and messages of support! My family and I would like to thank everyone who has been looking after me since yesterday's incident,"

the defender tweeted, along with a photo of him smiling and giving a thumbs-up.

medical team, to team-mates and opponents, to St Mary's and Cleveland Hospital and all staff members and doctors: a massive thank you from the bottom of my heart.

"Now, time to recover and I will see you soon on the pitch!"
