Graham Potter on Mudryk’s transfer: “He's a player with a big future”

A narrow Sunday victory over Crystal Palace eased the pressure on Graham Potter with the Chelsea boss reacting to their latest signing, Mudryk.

Kai Havertz's 64-minute header proved to be the only goal of

Chelsea

's home victory over Crystal Palace hours after confirming the £89m transfer of

Mykhailo Mudryk

, who the Blues hijacked from their rivals, Arsenal.

After Chelsea's first win of 2023,

Graham Potter

told reporters about their latest signing: "

You're never surprised in the transfer window.

"Things happen when you don't expect them to happen. He's a player with a big future, one vs one he's very direct, he attacks the back-line. I think our supporters will really like him."

The Ukrainian striker is bound to a contract until 2030 with the Blues. Pressed on the length of the contract, Potter added:

"I'm the head coach, so thankfully, I have enough to worry about, I'll leave contract lengths to the club. I'm looking forward to working with him. If I'm here for the remainder of his contract, then we'll all be happy!"

Mudryk was unveiled during the game against

Crystal Palace

and spoke about the Chelsea project and his decision-making.

"

I'm so happy to sign for Chelsea

," he said.

"This is a huge club, in a fantastic league and it is a very attractive project for me at this stage of my career.

"I'm excited to meet my new teammates and I'm looking forward to working and learning under Graham Potter and his staff."
