Fabio Cannavaro: I didn't betray Juventus

Former Juventus star Fabio Cannavaro says he did not betray the Bianconeri when he decided to join Real Madrid in 2006.

in 2006. He returned to Juventus in 2009 but some Juventus fans still criticise him for leaving the club.

“I betrayed nobody,”

Cannavaro told La Repubblica Torino.

“Juventus and Real Madrid reached an agreement for my transfer, who was involved knows the truth. Everything was clear, and I even returned to Juventus a few years later.”

Napoli

faces Luciano Spalletti’s side at the Stadio Maradona on Friday. Cannavaro who played for Napoli from 1991 to 1995 believes tomorrow’s game is not decisive in the title race.

“I learned how to win in Turin, but Naples is my city and I will forever be a Neapolitan,”

said Cannavaro.

“Tomorrow’s game is important, but not decisive. Napoli have been playing the best brand of football in Europe for months. Juventus are always a reference point and are always hungry for victories, it can be an amazing game.”

Cannavaro played 421 games in Serie A and won two titles with Juventus but those trophies were revoked due to the Calciopoli scandal. Italian legend won the 2006 World Cup in Germany. Cannavaro also won the Ballon d'Or award in 2006 which made him the only third defender in history who has won the award.
