Chelsea lose Mendy as the goalkeeper undergoes surgery on fractured finger
Graham Potter’s list of injuries gets longer as Edouard Mendy undergoes surgery on finger.
Chelsea goalkeeper
Edouard Mendywho had been sidelined with a shoulder injury and was close to a return, now has to be out even longer as he undergoes a surgery on his fractured finger.
Mendy got injured in Senegal’s World Cup campaign as the African nation reached the last-16 stage and he hasn’t been featured in any form for Chelsea ever since. Potter expected Mendy to be available to be selected for their FA Cup clash against Manchester City but it has been revealed today that he has now undergone a surgery.
The club released an official statement which read:
"Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has undergone an operation on a fractured finger sustained in training this week.
"The 30-year-old will work closely with the club’s medical department during his rehabilitation phase."
Despite being one of Chelsea’s standout players from last season, Mendy’s form and that of Chelsea in general have dipped significantly this season, which is why Kepa is once again in contention and has started all of
Chelsea’s matches since the World Cup.
