Bernardeschi: What Gianluca Vialli taught us will remain forever

Italy’s Euro 2020 winner Federico Bernardeschi says Gianluca Vialli's memory will remain with them forever.

The former

Juventus

and Chelsea star Gianluca Vialli was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2017 and died aged 58 on Friday. Vialli was part of Italy’s coaching staff that won the Euro 2020.

The former Juventus winger

Bernardeschi

 has paid tribute to the

Italy

legend.

“If he has received the 1% of what he gave us, I’d be the happiest person in the world,”

Bernardeschi told to Sky Sport Italia.

“When he was talking, everyone was quiet, there was absolute silence. He got where he wanted. This is a gift he had and I think he transmitted it in an exceptional way I think this is his legacy, what he taught us, which will remain forever.”

Vialli is the last Juventus captain to have lifted the Champions League in 1996. On Friday, former Italy captain Giorgio Chiellini hailed the impact Vialli had in the Azzurri’s Euro 2020 campaign and Bernardeschi also said his speeches helped the players in the tournament.

“There was a lot of emotion when he was talking, the atmosphere was different,”

continued Bernardeschi.

“He was doing so not to get something back. He gave his all and he did it for us all. He worked with all of us, trying to create a feeling and a link, he was that link, he was that secret. We were lucky to live with this person because what he left is indescribable.”
