Tchouameni looks forward to partnering up with Kante and Pogba

N’Golo Kante and Paul Pogba’s absence hasn’t been felt as strongly as pundits predicted with Aurelien Tchouameni starring for France in their absence.

France and Real Madrid youngster midfielder prodigy

Aurelien Tchouameni

insists that he and his midfield partners are ready to take on the tasks of Kante and Pogba in their absence.

Tchouameni who scored France’s opener against England with a beautifully-taken long range effort, helped Les Bleus on Wednesday to beat Morocco and reach their second consecutive World Cup final under Didier Deschamps.

While France became the first defending World Champion to reach the World Cup final since Brazil did so in the 1998 World Cup, the fans and pundits alike were not so sure about their chances prior to the tournament.

With high-profile injuries like Karim Benzema but especially France’s brilliant midfield duo Pogba and Kante missing out on the tournament entirely, the task of taking up the midfielder role fell upon Tchouameni and co.

The Real Madrid midfielder has done brilliantly in the role alongside Adrien Rabiot but when he was asked whether

Pogba

or Kante's role suits him the best, he said:

"It's both!

"Sometimes it's [my job] to recover some balls like today, and sometimes I have the opportunities to score a goal, like the last game.

"Or today when I had the almost-assists for Kylian [Mbappe] and Olivier [Giroud]. It's a mix between those two [Pogba and

Kante

]. They are great players for us.

"Unfortunately, they're not here because they're injured, so we try to do our best to help the team in the middle of the pitch, and I think we do a great job."

Didier Deschamps has went on to praise his midfielders, Tchouameni, Fofana and Rabiot as well, saying:

"Experience isn't everything, they have great qualities and play with top clubs,"

Deschamps told reporters.

"They may not have much experience at the international level, but they are good enough to play at this level.

"They have tremendous potential, tremendous quality – and they are supported by the experienced players around them.

"All of the players struggled against Tunisia – Fofana had a bad game, if I'm honest with you – but he showed today, in a World Cup semi-final, that he has learned from that experience.
