Portugal 6–1 Switzerland: Ramos served Switzerland an embarrassment

Portugal hosted Switzerland in their Qatar 2022 round-of-16 clash where the Swiss men were eager to revenge the 4-0 defeat they suffered in UEFA Nations League in June while this was the seventh time the two sides met each other in the 21st century.

Overcoming South Korea, Uruguay, and Ghana, Portugal proceeded to the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup as the Group H winners while

Switzerland

proceeded behind Brazil as Group G runners-up. While Swiss men were looking for revenge,

Portugal

was looking to build on their way to the quarter-finals of the World Cup for the third time in their entire history after 1966 and 2006.

Despite a slow start to the game,

Goncalo Ramos

scored the opener for the host in the 17th minute as he finished a well-placed pass from Joao Felix. Pepe doubled Portugal's lead in the 33rd minute heading in Bruno Fernandes' corner before the two sides headed to their dressing rooms with a 2-0 advantage for Portugal.

Ramos completed his brace in the 51st minute converting Dalot's low cross before Guerreiro seal the result in the 55th minute, this time through Ramos' assist. Akanji pulled one back in the 58th minute, however, it was of little help to his national side.

Ramos completed his hat-trick

in the 67th minute and he left no doubt in Portugal's advantage over their European rivals. Just five minutes after coming off the bench to replace Bruno Fernandes, Rafael Leao scored his side's sixth goal to complete Switzerland's embarrassment sealing a

6-1 victory

for his side.

Portugal proceeded to the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup where they will face Morocco, who eliminated Spain in the penalty shoot-out on Tuesday.
