Cameroon 1-0 Brazil: the Indomitable Lions shock Brazil

Cameroon’s economical win over Selecao wasn’t enough for them to qualify to the last-16 as Switzerland won against Serbia

In a rather one-sided game that saw Brazil control 64% of the possession, Cameroon manage to get a late win with hero Aboubakar scoring from an incredible header.

With

Brazil

having already qualified after getting 6 points from the first two games, Tite decided to play his squad players, with the likes of Gabriel Martinelli, Jesus and Fred leading the line as well as the likes of 39-year-old Dani Alves and Gleison Bremer in the back line.

The B squad put on a good show but what they were lacking was the finishing touch as they managed to generate 17 shots, 8 of which were on target, but either a lackluster finish or Cameroon goalie Epassy stopped any chances of going in.

Cameroon’s defense held strong despite some early warning shots but the likes of Ebosse and Tolo helped

Cameroon

get a clean sheet with Epassy giving a strong performance in the goal.

Brazil’s barrage of attacks mostly came from the left flank with Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli possibly being the best Selecao player in the match but even that faded a bit after Tite’s substitutes in the second half. Bruno Guimaraes got into a few good positions on chances but failed to score any of them.

However, in the 92nd minute substitute Ngom Mbekeli burst through on the right flank and delivered a perfect cross for

Vincent Aboubakar

who headed it home beautifully, taking Cameroon 1-0 up. Aboubakar took his shirt off to celebrate but as he was already booked, he was then sent off with Cameroon needing to defend their win with 10 men in the last 6 minutes of the match.

But Rigobert Song’s side managed to do so, shocking Brazil and getting a win that ultimately proved fruitless as Switzerland managed to win against Serbia and qualify alongside Brazil who are now set to face South Korea.
