Van Gaal hails the “difference-maker” Depay after winning Qatar

After picking up a hamstring injury, Memphis Depay started two of his side's World Cup matches from the bench. However, he finally made his full injury return on Tuesday against Qatar. Louis van Gaal hails the Barca striker for his impact on their 2-0 victory over Qatar.

Louis van Gaal's side

dominated the first half as they eventually scored the opener through Cody Gakpo who brilliantly finished Klaassen's assist.

Frenkie de Jong doubled the Dutchmen superiority early in the second half, scoring on a rebound from a shot by

Memphis Depay

, helping the Netherlands secure their place as the group winners. Praising Depay's effect, van Gaal told his post-match interview:

"The difference is Memphis is playing.

"He was involved in those two goals. That is the big difference.

"We have to bring Memphis into the game gradually, because he hasn't played in about two months."

Being asked whether the Netherlands had

underwhelmed

, the Dutch coach said:

"I think you have a different perspective on football than I.

"Why don't you write down that it's terribly boring and you're going home tomorrow because you couldn't care less?"

On fans concurring the match, Van Gaal said; "

That's disappointing, but I don't agree. I think everyone would be rather proud that we're progressing to the next round

."
