Sergio Ramos to be included in 55-man Spain list for World Cup

Paris Saint-Germain defender Sergio Ramos reportedly will be named in Spain's initial 55-man list for the World Cup in Qatar.

According to the Spanish press, Luis Enrique is set to announce his preliminary squad for the World Cup on Friday and the 36-year-old Ramos will be included. The former Real Madrid star has not been invited to the national team since March of 2021.

Spain federation reportedly will not make Enrique’s 55-man list public. The 26-man list for Spain will be announced on the 11th of November. All teams must announce their final squad by November 13.

It is still unlikely Ramos will be on the plane to Qatar. Nico Williams, Alejandro Balde, Sergio Canales, and Borja Iglesias are also on the 55-man list but it is not clear whether Ansu Fati makes it.

Ramos who made his debut for Sapin in 2005 has played in 180 matches and has scored 23 goals. The Center-back won UEFA European Championship in 2008 and 2012. He also won the World Cup in 2010.

Ramos' last international match was against Kosovo in World Cup qualifying in March 2021. He left Real Madrid last year after 16 years and joined PSG. He played in just 12 matches last season due to injuries but this season already has played in 15 matches.

Spain is in Group E with Germany, Costa Rica, and Japan. They will start their campaign against Costa Rica on November 23.
