Flick took the blame for Germany loss against Hungary

The former Bayern coach experienced his first defeat against Germany last night in Leipzig.

Germany

coach Hansi Flick took charge after his first defeat with this team against

Hungary

.

Adam Szalai's single goal in the first half was enough for Germany to lose 1-1 in Leipzig and not be able to make up for the result in the remaining time. Flick suffered his first defeat on the German bench as they also lost to Hungary for the first time since 2004.

England

's defeat to Italy last night kept Germany safe from relegation, but Flick nevertheless took the blame.

He told ZDF:

"We wanted to try something with Jonas in the right-back position. I have to take responsibility for that. We never got where we wanted to use [our full-backs]. That's didn't work."

The German added:

"This defeat will not throw us off track.

"We know what is required of us now and this has opened our eyes a bit. It’s better to lose now rather than at the World Cup.

"Our first half was really poor. We didn’t do enough, played without confidence and made too many basic errors. It was a lot better after the break, though we failed to create enough chances."
