Lazio invested in their squad, others sold their star - club president

The Lazio president is satisfied with how Maurizio Sarri is coaching the team and emphasized his plan to retain the services of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, while ‘other clubs sold their stars.’

Lazio

are sitting three points behind the

Serie A

leaders

Napoli

and

Atalanta

following their four victories, two draws and one loss in the league since the start of the season.

Maurizio Sarri

is having his second campaign with the club after ending the previous season right below the Champions League qualification place.

“We understood each other immediately. I didn’t know Sarri, but he made a great impression. He lives for football, that’s why, I gave him Lazio’s long-term project,

” Lazio President

Claudio Lotito

told Leggo.

“After Inzaghi’s unexpected departure, we opted for a coach in line with the club’s ambitions. Somebody who could begin a new project straight away.”

The Biancocelesti spent a lot of money this summer and did not cash in on any of their key players, including

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

. Their aim was to strengthen the team.

“It was one of the most costly transfer windows, but we wanted to invest in renewing the team,”

Lotito admitted.

“We wanted to sign useful players and we haven’t sold our best players, including Milinkovic-Savic, which is something people underestimate. Other teams sold their most important assets, but we didn’t.”

He was also asked to share his opinion about the criticism regarding Ciro Immobile.

“It’s incredible that a player like him is not celebrated as he would deserve. He has been scoring so many goals for years. He even won the Golden Shoe, but perhaps the fact that he is a Lazio player is annoying to someone. I know him well and he loves Lazio because our fans make him feel important.”

The Italy international has met the target five times in seven Serie A matches this season. The Serie A side are set to continue their season on Sunday, October 2, after the international break, when they face Spezia at the Stadio Olimpico.
