Zakaria happier at Chelsea than at Juventus

The Switzerland international said that he didn’t know anything about the Blues until six hours before the summer transfer window reached its end, but he admitted that he feels happier. ‘Juventus didn’t play that well. Maybe the style of football wasn’t suited to me.’

Denis Zakaria

made a move to

Juventus

from Borussia Monchengladbach on a deal worth €8.6m in 2022, but he joined

Chelsea

on a loan deal following a very quick set of procedures. His deal was €3m and included an option to purchase for another €28m plus €5m in add-ons.

“It all happened very quickly. I didn’t know a move to Chelsea was possible until six hours before the end of the transfer window,”

Zakaria told Blick in Switzerland when he was on international duty.

He also revealed that the rumors had some truth to them, like when they reported that Liverpool were also keen on getting his signature before the transfer deadline, before they turned their attention to Arthur Melo instead.

“I heard that from my agent, but in the end it was Chelsea. I think I’ll be happier in England than in Turin.”

The Bianconeri have only managed to win two of their nine matches this season, and they even lost their battle against Serie A newly promoted Monza. In addition, they were defeated twice in the group stage of the Champions League and they sit bottom of the group.

Zakaria appeared in only 15 matches for Juventus, meeting the target once and contributing one assist. Zakaria was not pleased with Max Allegri, just like Matthijs de Ligt when he joined Bayern Munich.

“It’s difficult to say what went wrong, maybe the style of football wasn’t suited to me. The team sat very deep, so I didn’t have much space. I’m a player who needs a lot of space for my runs. It might suit me better in England.

“Allegri is a good person, I can say that for sure. Maybe the team didn’t play that well, which is a shame, as with the talent in that squad, they can do much better.”
