Real Madrid 4-1 Mallorca: Top of the LaLiga with a super-goal

Federico Valverde's stunning individual goal was the highlight as Real Madrid came from behind to remain perfect in LaLiga this season.

Real Madrid

is back at the top of the LaLiga table after beating Mallorca 4-1 at the

Santiago Bernabéu

. Mallorca took the lead when the in-form Vedat Muriqi headed the ball in. However, Federico Valverde scored a great goal on his own before halftime to tie the game.

Carlo Ancelotti's team turned things around 18 minutes before the end when Vinicius Junior scored for the fourth straight LaLiga game. Rodrygo scored a second impressive solo goal, and Antonio Rudiger scored his first goal for the club late to tie things up.

Los Blancos are still the only team in the big five European leagues with a perfect record this season. This is the first time since 2009-10 that they have won their first five league games. Mallorca hadn't won at Madrid since May 2009, but Muriqi warned the visitors in the first minute.

When the striker caught Martin Valjent's long pass, he quickly got away from

Antonio Rudiger

and hit a powerful shot that

Thibaut Courtois

blocked. On the other side,

Dani Ceballos

and Rodrygo tested Predrag Rajkovic. Still, Mallorca took an unexpected lead in the 25th minute when Muriqi headed Lee Kang-free In's kick-in for his third goal while no one was watching.

In the last minute of the first half, Valverde made a great run deep inside his half before shooting into the top corner from 20 yards. This tied the game for Madrid. Just after the hour mark, Lucas Vazquez sent a 25-yard shot just wide. Then, Mallorca missed a great chance to take the lead back when substitute Antonio Sanchez shot wide with only Courtois to beat.

It cost them because Madrid took the lead in the 72nd minute. Rodrygo broke through the visitors' defense and passed the ball to Vinicius. Vinicius then flicked the ball over Rajkovic's head. The game was over when Rodrygo scored with a minute left by making a strong, jinking run into the box and avoiding several challenges before cutting. Rudiger then scored a free kick from Toni Kroos at the far post in stoppage time.

What's the meaning? Madrid needs to get better to stay perfect. Now that Madrid is back at the top of LaLiga, they have won nine of their last ten league games against Mallorca. In October 2019, they lost 1-0. After Muriqi's early header, however, Los Blancos have now given up goals in each of their first five league games for the first time since Carlos Queiroz was in charge in 2003-04.

Four-formidable Vinicius Vinicius was in 22 duels, which was the most in the game. He made history when he turned the game on its head. At 22 years and 61 days old, the

Brazil

international became the youngest player since

Gonzalo Higuain

in November 2009 to score in four straight LaLiga games for Madrid (21 years, 346 days). Valverde ends drought in style. After a nearly two-year wait, Valverde finally scored in LaLiga after a tremendous individual effort. He was an unlikely goal scorer. The Uruguayan scored his last league goal in a 4-1 win over Huesca in October 2020.

Before that, he hadn't scored at Santiago Bernabeu since a 3-1 victory over Real Sociedad in November 2019. What comes next? On Wednesday, Madrid will play RB Leipzig at home in the Champions League. On Sunday, Madrid will play Atletico in the Madrid derby. When they host Almeria in LaLiga on Saturday, Mallorca will be looking for a response.
