Manchester United defender Eric Bailly joins Marseille on loan deal

Manchester United defender Eric Bailly has joined Marseille on a season-long loan deal.

Manchester United

has announced

Eric Bailly

has joined

Marseille

on a season-long loan deal with the option to buy him permanently.

Bailly was linked with AS Roma and Sevilla but in the end, he decided to accept Ligue 1 side's offer. Marseille reportedly has to buy him permanently for €6 million if Bailly meets an appearances criteria and they qualify for the Champions League.

United has signed center-back Lisandro Martinez this summer and the Ivory Coast international who just played in seven matches last season was not in Ten Hag’s plans.

Bailly joined United from Villarreal in 2016 for a reported fee of £30 million. He has never really established himself at United and since then he has played in 113 matches and won Europe League, EFL Cup, and Community Shield.

United has signed four players this summer including Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez, and Casemiro and they still want to sign a forward, goalkeeper, and another midfielder.

United started the new season with two defeats but Ten Hag's side beat their arch rivals Liverpool 2-1 in the Premier League on Monday.
