Yaya Toure lands coaching role at Tottenham’s academy

Former Manchester City Yaya Toure has been appointed as coach of Tottenham Under-16s.

legend Yaya Toure has joined the club's coaching staff.

Barcelona

star spent time with Spurs since December in an unofficial capacity while he worked towards his Uefa A Licence. Toure completed his coaching course with the Football Association of Wales this summer.

A statement from Tottenham read:

“Three-time Premier League winner Yaya Touré has taken up the role of Under-16s Coach. The former Barcelona and Manchester City midfielder, who has tasted glory in the UEFA Champions League, La Liga, Copa del Rey, the FA Cup, League Cup, and Africa Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast during a glittering playing career, had an initial spell working with our Academy staff during the second half of last season.”

The 39-year-old has not played professionally since a stint with the Chinese club Qingdao Huanghai in 2019.

Toure had a brief coaching spell with Queens Park Rangers working alongside Chris Ramsey at the beginning of 2021. He also held coaching roles with the Ukrainian Premier League side Olimpik Donetsk and Akhmat Grozny.

Former Spurs striker Jermain Defoe also will work alongside existing staff across the Under-17 to Under-21 age categories at Spurs.
