Roma legend De Rossi favourite to be new Palermo manager

Former Roma and Italy great Daniele De Rossi is the favorite to become the manager of Palermo.

According to Sportitalia,

Roma

legend Daniele De Rossi is close to becoming

Palermo’s

new manager in his first major coaching role.

The 39-year-old De Rossi left Roma in 2019 after 18 seasons and joined Boca Juniors. He played six months at Boca Juniors and retired in January 2020. De Rossi was part of Roberto Mancini’s Italy staff at EURO 2020 but now wants to work as a manager at the club level.

Palermo earned a promotion to

Serie B

last season and the club was sold to the owners of Manchester City. Head coach Silvio Baldini and sporting director both resigned recently due to divergences with the new owners.

Former Palermo player and coach Eugenio Corini was linked with the club but it seems De Rossi is the favorite to sit on the bench. De Rossi recently was seen in Manchester at Manchester City’s training center with former Roma teammate Aleksander Kolarov and he reportedly met with Pep Guardiola for dinner in an informal setup.

Palermo’s season will start on Saturday when they visit Torino in the first round of the Coppa Italia.
