Loyalty to Napoli makes Mertens reject Juventus's offer

Leaving Napoli at the end of last season when his contract expired, Belgium forward is a free agent as he didn't agree to Napoli’s offered €2.4m per season offer, With Inter and Lazio in the chase, Mertens rejected Juventus's offer as he does not want to become a Napoli traitor.

, Mertens has turned down Juventus' €5m per season offer due to his loyalty to

Napoli

. Juventus wanted to sign the Belgian as an alternative for their other target, Alvaro Morata, who they failed to reach an agreement with Atletico Madrid over a transfer.

The 35-year-old, who scored 13 goals and provided two assists in 37 appearances last season, wants to retire next year.

The Belgian

is the Partenopei’s all-time leading goal scorer with 148 goals. He joined the club from PSV Eindhoven in 2013. He won two Coppa Italia and one Supercoppa Italian with Napoli, being nicknamed “Ciro”, a common name in Naples, by the fans.

 

It's been reported Serie A sides Lazio and

Inter

are interested in signing the Belgian as he also has an offer from Olympique Marseille.

Marseille

also is close to signing Alexis Sanchez as a free agent and some reports even suggest Inter could see signing Dries Mertens on a free transfer as a low-cost replacement for Alexis Sanchez and the former Napoli star is open to joining Inter.
