Paris Saint-Germain's Wijnaldum to push for a move away to Roma

While he was expected to sign for Barcelona after leaving Anfield at the end of his Liverpool contract, the Dutch midfielder opted to sign for PSG in the final minutes. Failing to live up to his expectations, he’s ready to put it all behind him by joining Roma on loan with the option to buy.

L’Equipe

reported that the former Liverpool midfielder,

Georginio Wijnaldum

has informed Paris Saint-Germain of his intention to join Roma. The Netherlands international had also been linked with a move to Milan, however, Milan favored a move for Lille’s Renato Sanches.

The outlet reports that the PSG midfielder has officially informed his club that he’s ready to forget his disastrous PSG season by joining

Roma

on loan with the option to buy. The Giallorossi are only prepared to pay half his salary during that loan spell.

Despite having a disappointing debut season at

Paris Saint-Germain

, Wijnaldum contributed three goals and three assists for the Parisians through his 38 competitive appearances. After signing Paulo Dybala and Nemanja Matic as free transfers this summer, the former Liverpool midfielder could be a great boost for the Giallorossi.

With his contract with Liverpool ending last season, the 30-year-old was speculated to make a move to Barca and link up with Ronald Koeman. However, he achieved a huge-money move to Paris Saint-Germain after his brilliant performances with the Netherlands in Euros, where he led his side with eight goals in Euro 2020 throughout the tournament.
