BBC News apologises for showing wrong footballer in rape arrest report
The national news station has admitted that it made a mistake while reporting the news.

News after his picture was shown in a story about a Premier League player arrested for alleged sexual offenses.
During an update on a story about a top-flight player being accused of rape, a picture of the
England
international was shown behind presenter Mike Bushell. The BBC News channel caught the mistake right away. It is thought that Sterling was mentioned in an earlier story about his move to Stamford Bridge.
The national news station made it clear that the 27-year-old forward had nothing to do with the incident that led to police action. During an on-air apology, the BBC said, "In our sports bulletin earlier, the wrong picture showed up with a story about a Premier League player being arrested for alleged sexual offenses. This was due to a technical error."
"A picture of a different player who had nothing to do with the first one was shown. We're sorry about that mistake."
It was also said that the same apology would be shown again in the next sports bulletin for the channel. The report Sterling saw was about a player arrested in Barnet, north London, on July 4 after a woman in her 20s said he raped her in June. The player has not been named by police.
When more accusations from April and June came out, the player was arrested again while he was already in jail. The 29-year-old denies the accusations and has been released on bail until August. A Premier League club hasn't been named and said it won't do anything to the player in question.
