Manchester United struggling to convince Frenkie de Jong join the club

The new Red Devils’ boss, Erik ten Hag, wants to work again with his former Ajax man at United. While it seemed Manchester United is closing on a deal with Barcelona, their main struggle found out to be convincing de Jong himself.

Manchester United

's first offer of €60 million-plus €20 million in add-ons was turned down, so there is still no deal between Barca and United as of today. Blaugrana’s plan is to at least get back the €75 million they gave Ajax for his services in 2019.

Now according to

Fabrizio Romano

, Barcelona has reportedly agreed on a €65m plus €20m in add-ons deal with United for the transfer of the Dutchman. However, the Red Devils struggling to convince the Dutchman himself.

Meanwhile, De Jong’s priority is reported to be staying in

Barcelona

, but considering their necessary financial maintenance, he needs to accept a salary reduction to stay with the Catalans which is considered highly unlikely.

The 25-year-old

de Jong

joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019 for €75 million and played in 140 matches for them but he has not been able to repeat his performances at Ajax. Barcelona is also in a financial crisis and has struggled to sign new players and extend their contracts. They need to sell several players and one of whom is De Jong.

United is also interested in free agent Christian Eriksen and has offered him a contract. They also have turned their attention to Ajax's Lisandro Martinez after club-mate Jurrien Timber indicated he would reject a move to United.
