Sinclair Backs Pochettino to Replace Guardiola at City Next Summer

Guardiola will be out-of-contract next summer and has made the decision not to put pen to paper on a new deal this summer. Meanwhile, the former striker Trevor Sinclair believes Mauricio Pochettino, who got sacked from PSG this summer, could be Guardiola’s ideal replacement.

PSG terminated Mauricio Pochettino's contract after 18 months in charge while Pochettino had another year left on his contract. The Argentine is understood to be keen on the idea of managing in England once again after leading Tottenham Hotspur to the final of the European Champions League.

With the possible departure of

Pep Guardiola

next summer, the former

Manchester City

striker believes the Argentine could be the best replacement. He told

talkSPORT

:

"You look at him and he knows how to deal with egos. He seems to have a fantastic rapport with players.

"It doesn't matter how big the players are, we have seen him managing [Lionel] Messi, [Kylian] Mbappe and Neymar. So on that side of things, I think he is safe hands. He is a charming man and I think he comes across well in the media.

"I actually feel that Manchester City might be the club for him. I think he might have a bit of a sabbatical now, because I'm sure he is not struggling for finances.

"But I think Manchester City could be the one for him. If Guardiola walks away at a certain stage, that might be a hot seat ready to take for Pochettino.”

Pochettino replaced Thomas Tuchel as

PSG

manager in January 2021. PSG finished second in Ligue 1 behind Christophe Galtier's Lille and exited the Champions League at the semi-final stage to Manchester City. They won the Ligue 1 next season but this time exited the Champions League at the round-of-16 stage to Real Madrid.
