Kylian Mbappe almost quit the France national team Euro 2020 criticism

Last year, France lost to Switzerland in the last 16 of Euro 2020, and Kylian Mbappe got a lot of criticism for how he played.

Noel Le Graet

, the head of the

French Football Federation

(FFF), said that

Kylian Mbappe

thought about leaving France after being criticized for his performances at Euro 2020.

Last year, the 23-year-old didn't score in any of his four games, and France was shocked to be knocked out by Switzerland in the round of 16. Mbappe, a forward for

Paris Saint-Germain

, missed the decisive penalty kick, and the reigning world champions lost a shocking game on penalties after a 3-3 tie in extra time.

A lot of the criticism at the time was aimed at Mbappe, and FFF boss Le Graet has said how much that hurt the former Monaco star. "After the Euros, we met up. "He felt that the Federation didn't stand up for him after he missed the penalty and was criticized," Le Graet told Le Journal du Dimanche.

"We met in my office for five minutes. He was so mad that he said he didn't want to play for

France

anymore, which was not true. "You know how it is. He's a winner and has very upset about being kicked off, just like the rest of us. He's so good with the media. He's a great guy who has a lot more common sense than most people think."

Since France's disappointing performance at Euro 2020 last year, Mbappe has played nine more times for France, helping them qualify for this year's World Cup in

Qatar

. He hcored 27 goals in 57 games for Les Blues, putting him 11th on the all-time list of goalscorers. Thierry Henry is at the top of the list (51 goals).
