Kurt Zuma confesses to animal abuse in court

The French defender admitted in court that he had abused his cat.

West Ham

defender Kurt Zouma has pleaded guilty to kicking and slapping his pet cat in abuse caught on video.

Zouma appeared in court at the Thames with his brother, Yuan, after a video released on social media in February that showed widespread condemnation. Kurt Zouma pleaded guilty to two counts under the Animal Welfare Act.

In the film, Kurt Zouma is seen throwing, kicking and slapping one of his cats, while laughter is heard in the background. The 27-year-old then chases the pet and then throws a pair of shoes at it and hits it on the head. The lawsuit was filed by the animal welfare charity RSPCA. He and his brother were arrived at court by their bodyguards with coats covering their faces.

Zouma apologized after the screening of the film. Yoan, 24, confessed to the crime during the hearing.

West Ham had previously banned Zouma from two weeks' salary - which was the maximum allowed - but David Moyes continued to use him i, which drew much criticism. Adidas, which sponsored the French defender, cut ties with him.

British law allows organizations such as the RSPCA to use specialized lawyers and to prosecute individuals.
