Marsch sends "screwed" warning to Leeds stars after Arsenal defeat

Jesse Marsch is looking for a reaction from his team after they fell into the bottom three for the first time since October.

After falling into the

Premier League

relegation zone with a 2-1 loss to

Arsenal

on Sunday,

Jesse Marsch

vowed that his

Leeds United

side will "fight for our lives."

Eddie Nketiah

scored an early goal after Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier gifted him the ball. The Arsenal striker, who spent 2019-20 on loan at Elland Road, added a second after just 10 minutes. After 27 minutes, the visitors added to their misery when Luke Ayling, who was making his 500th appearance, was sent off for lunging at Gabriel Martinelli. Diego Llorente pulled one back for Leeds with his first goal on target in the 66th minute, but they were left with too much to do.

Leeds will end the day in the bottom three for the first time since October 30 after their second consecutive loss, combined with Everton's 2-1 win at Leicester City. Leeds have spent 16 days in the relegation zone this season, five fewer than Arsenal, who have lost their first three games.

Leeds were victims of their own mistakes at Emirates Stadium, but Marsch believes his team will bounce back in their remaining three games. Marsch, who took over from

Marcelo Bielsa

in late February, told BBC Sport: "I think we had a really bad start and dug a hole for ourselves that we didn't need to."

"At halftime, we talked about maintaining our cool and treating the game as if it were a 0-0 tie." That is exactly what we did. We're in a precarious situation." We must regroup and determine our options. We're up against a brick wall. We are in danger of relegation, but we must fight for our survival.

"I knew this wasn't going to be easy when I arrived two months ago. The gang has maintained its strength. The character of the people we have is highlighted in our second-half performance. This club's fans and support are incredible." We want to honor that support with a performance on the field."

Leeds United set a Premier League record for the most bookings in a single season with their 95th and 96th yellow cards. They now have home games against Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion before traveling to Brentford on the final day of the season. For the first time since February and March 2012, Arsenal has won four consecutive league games while conceding at least once in each of them.
