To qualify for the finals in Qatar, Ukraine must defeat Scotland on Wednesday, June 1, before defeating Wales on June 5.

Wales

qualified for the final round of the play-offs with a 2-1 win against Austria on March 24, which was the initial date for the Scotland-Ukraine match.

The victor of the last European play-off will join

England

,

Iran

, and the

United States

in a World Cup group B.

On Thursday, UEFA confirmed the revised play-off dates, as well as how its Nations League opening matches, which are also scheduled for the June international window, will be rescheduled to accommodate Ukraine, Wales, and Scotland's World Cup obligations.

The governing body of European football stated that it had held "extensive discussions" with eight national associations affected by the World Cup games being moved to the planned Nations League dates and that there had been a "remarkable spirit of solidarity and cooperation" in negotiating a revised timetable.

Wales was scheduled to play Poland in the Nations League on June 3, but the match has been rescheduled for June 1, giving Rob Page's side a competitive encounter before playing either Scotland or Ukraine.

Scotland was scheduled to meet Ukraine in the Nations League on June 7, but the match has been postponed until September 21, when both teams would have three matches in seven days.
