Blatter and Platini to stand trial in June - Swiss FCC confirmed

The former FIFA president and the ex-UEFA boss are going to go on trial as they have been charges with fraud.

Sepp Blatter

and

Michel Platini

will go to trial in June for charges of fraud and corruption, according to Switzerland's Federal Criminal Court (FCC).

The duo committed fraud and other offences about a payment that was done in 2011, for which they were charged last year by Swiss authorities.

After starting an investigation in 2015, Switzerland’s attorney general’s office (OAG) published an accusation.

The pair "are accused of unlawfully arranging a payment of CHF2million from FIFA to Michel Platini", the OAG said at the time.

The date of the trial is set to be on June 8 and the proceedings will go on until the 22nd.

The trial is focusing on a payment FIFA made to Platini back in 2011 and Blatter authorized it, with OAG alleging that it "was made without a legal basis".

The accusations says that Platini asked this CHF2million payment eight year after his job as a consultant for the former FIFA president between 1999 and 2002 was over and that it "damaged FIFA's assets and unlawfully enriched Platini".

Based on the alleges, Platini was paid by FIFA CHF300,000 annually for his job. The indictment agreed upon it in a written contract.

Blatter was forbidden from footballing activities for eight years first but then it reduced to six. It was done by FIFA in 2015 since the Ethics Committee investigation said the payment was “disloyal”. Platini also received an eight-year suspension.

Blatter’s charges are fraud, misappropriation, criminal mismanagement and forgery of a document. Platini, on the other hand, stands trial for charges of fraud, participating in misappropriation, participating in criminal mismanagement as well as forgery of a document.
