Arsenal got their DNA back with Arteta - Pires

The former French star believes that Mikel Arteta was able to transform the team.

Arsenal

legend Robert Pires praised the team's performance and claimed that the Gunners had recovered their DNA.

Pires played for Arsenal from 2000 to 2006, winning two Premier League titles under Arsene Wenger and reaching the

Champions League

final with the team. After Wenger's departure, Arsenal have had poor results in recent seasons, but Mikel Arteta has been able to change the situation and achieve acceptable results this season. Pires now praised the Spanish coach, claiming that the club had been able to recover their DNA.

He told Goal:

“I think he is doing a great job. Arsenal have found their DNA based on a fast and attacking game. He asks a lot of his players and is very demanding starting from the training sessions.”

Pires had good offers from Italy and Spain during the game, but preferred to stay at Arsenal. Asked about Gunners situation with Wenger, he replied:

“Wenger had a strong influence on me, thanks to him and Arsenal I reached very high levels. I always felt his 100 per cent confidence and this is extremely important for a player.

“It was him who convinced me to sign for Arsenal.

Real Madrid

and Juventus were also interested in me. I had to make a choice that wasn't exactly easy. He knew that he was going to lose [Marc] Overmars and that the only one who could replace him was me. So I signed for Arsenal and stayed for six years."
