The martial law imposition suspends Ukrainian Premier League

The Ukrainian football’s top tier is postponed due to Russia’s attack which led to the impose of martial law.

The Ukrainian Premier League has been postponed since the government imposed martial law after Russia attacked the country.

Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, decided to launch a military assault on Ukraine on Thursday, as the independence of the two breakaway regions in the eastern part of the country was recognized before.

Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukraine president, answered by cutting ties with Moscow and imposing martial law. Therefore, the premier football competition has to be suspended.

Due to the imposition of martial law in Ukraine, the championship of Ukraine has been suspended,"

read a short statement on the league's website.

, who are leading the Ukrainian Premier League, although it is now a doubt whether the competition will reach a conclusion.

The crisis has also seen UEFA doubt their decision to host

Champions League

final in the Russian city of St Petersburg and the reports are claiming the final may take place at the Gazprom Arena.

FIFA’s World Cup qualification can also go through change, since Russia were set to lock horns with Poland and Ukraine were scheduled to meet Scotland next month.
