Barcelona confirmed: Eric Garcia out for five weeks

Barcelona announced on Sunday that Eric Garcia will be out for more than a month due to a hamstring strain suffered at Granada.

Eric Garcia

will be sidelined for about five weeks after injuring his hamstring in Barcelona's 1-1 stalemate against Granada.

After 54 minutes, the 21-year-old defender was substituted by Clement Lenglet, and tests conducted by Barcelona on Sunday revealed the seriousness of the injury.

Garcia, who joined Barcelona as a free agent after his agreement with Manchester City ended at the end of 2020-21, has appeared in 20 outings this season, aiding the team to earn four clean sheets.

Xavi's squad has a number of players returning from injury or positive COVID-19 tests, notably Memphis Depay and Sergino Dest. However, Garcia will now be out until around the midpoint of February, while Gavi will also be absent after getting a red card against Granada.

On Wednesday, Barcelona will face Real Madrid in the

Supercopa de Espana

semi-finals, with Xavi confirming striker

Ansu Fati

will come back from a hamstring injury that has held him out since November.

Following a 10-month hiatus due to a major knee injury, the Spain international, who inherited Lionel Messi's number 10 shirt, netted three times in five

LaLiga

games earlier this season.
