Gallagher gets his first England senior call-up

The Three Lions are missing some of their key players in their clash against San Marino, but this is a good opportunity for Conor Gallagher to earn his first senior cap.

Conor Gallagher

’s impressive performances at

Crystal Palace

have rewarded him with his first senior call-up for the England squad.

The midfielder had a remarkable first season in the Premier League with West Brom last season, notwithstanding their relegation. He was named the Baggies’ Young Player of the Year and sealed a temporary move back to the Premier League, joining Crystal Palace.

The Chelsea-owned player has stood out with his display at Selhurst Park, being nominated for October’s Professional Footballers' Association's Player of the Month award.

Since he is a regular at the U21 level, the 21-year-old will join the senior team hoping to play against San Marino on Monday, with England in need of a point to secure their World Cup qualification.

Gareth Southgate is without some of his key players as Jordan Henderson and Jack Grealish went back to their clubs to be assessed for injuries, with Mason Mount unavailable due to a dental surgery. Luke Shaw has a concussion, while Raheem Sterling has to take care of a “personal matter”.

However, it is a great chance for Gallagher to stake a claim with Qatar 2022 coming up soon.

Gallagher has contributed to six goals, four of which he netted himself, while also creating 17 opportunities.
