“I understand Angers' feelings” PSG boss reacts to late penalty drama

The Parisians defeated their opponents by converting a controversial penalty in the final minutes of the game.

Paris Saint-Germain defeated Angers with a 2-1 result on Friday. Angelo Fulgini scored the opener for Angers in the 36th minute, which was replied to by Danilo Pereira’s equalizer in the ten minutes after the hour mark.

Angers’ solid defensive performance kept PSG at bay for most of the second half, but a late penalty ruined the night for the Black and Whites. Kylian Mbappe scored a spot-kick for the French giants after the referee awarded his side a penalty for handball against Pierrick Capelle.

Angers’ Romain Thomas believes he was fouled by Mauro Icardi moments before the penalty incident.

"It's incredible what's happened." he told

.

"Losing 2-1 at the end, losing here isn't shameful, but [to lose] like that... no, it's not possible.

"We worked all week to do something properly and the referees can't take the time to do theirs.

"VAR... I'm starting to get tired of this story. Putting millions into something when you don't even know how to use it, it annoys me because I'm passionate, I'm dedicated.

"At the start of the play, he [Icardi] pulled me on the arm, I fell and then he plays from that position for the penalty. So, I'm frustrated."

PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino was asked about the incident after the game.

"It's difficult. I haven't seen the action footage yet. I couldn't see correctly whether there was a hand, a penalty or a foul ... I don't know.

"I understand Angers' feelings. I myself have often known these situations where the decisions are a little against us. But these are game situations."

PSG are leading the Ligue 1 table with 27 points from their 10 matches. Pochettino’s side will take on RB Leipzig in their next Champions League battle on Tuesday.
