Cannavaro: ‘I read about Pirlo, but I think Barcelona will call Xavi’

Fabio Cannavaro believes Barcelona would choose Xavi instead of Andrea Pirlo to replace Ronald Koeman.

Ronald Koeman

’s future at Nou Camps appears in doubt after their slow start to the season and former Juventus midfielder and coach

Andrea Pirlo

has been linked with

Barcelona

's job.

He is one of the candidates to replace the Dutch coach among Barcelona legends Frank Rijkaard and

Xavi

.

Italy legend

Fabio Cannavaro

believes Barcelona would choose Xavi instead of Pirlo because Xavi ‘knows the club’.

“Without Messi, everything is more difficult. The coach is fundamental. I read about Pirlo, but I think they will call Xavi. You need someone who knows the club’s values,”

Cannavaro told AS.

Cannavaro ended his contract with Guangzhou FC in September and hopes to get a job as a coach in Europe.

When he was asked about a possible job as Napoli or Italy coach, he answered:

“They are part of my story and I would love to, but my priority is to train in Europe: I don’t close any doors.”

Cannavaro is the last Italian player to win the Ballon d’Or. He was also named best player of the year in 2006 after Italy’s World Cup victory. During his playing career, he has played to Napoli, Parma, Inter, Juventus, Real Madrid, and Al-Ahli.
