Cannavaro resigned as Guangzhou FC manager

The former world champion decided to leave his team after 4 years.

Italian football legend Fabio Cannavaro has resigned as manager of

Guangzhou FC

after the Evergrande Group was on the verge of collapse.

Following Cannavaro's failure to lead Guangzhou FC to their ninth title in the Chinese Super League, rumors were circulating that the Italian coach might leave the team. However, after many financial problems in the Evergrande group, many questions have now been raised about the future of the team and their continued presence in the world of football.

Club's statement reads:  "After friendly negotiations, Guangzhou Evergrande has decided to terminate Fabio Cannavaro's contract."

"We whole-heartedly thank Fabio Cannavaro for his huge efforts and positive contribution to the club, and wish him all the best for the future."

After failing in the 2014-15 season, Cannavaro took charge of the club for the second time in 2017, but won the Chinese League at the end of the season. Shortly after the championship, the club announced that it had made changes to its management structure that would give Cannavaro less power.

Now that the future of the club is uncertain, Cannavaro parted his way with the club.
