Thiago Motta delighted with his first win in Serie A as a manager

Thiago Motta, the manager of Spezia, praised his team's first win of the season, a 2-1 victory against Venezia, but warned that the relegation struggle is a "separate competition" within Serie A.

They had grabbed an early advantage through Simone Bastoni's strike, which was leveled out by a header from Pietro Ceccaroni, but Medhi Bourabia sealed the win in stoppage time.

"It was a big performance from the lads, I am very happy with the attitude shown and above all the three points," Thiago Motta told DAZN.

This is Thiago Motta's first victory of the season and his first-ever away triumph in

Serie A

as a coach.

"It was a balanced game, and I think we're in frankly a different competition to the teams that are higher up the table, so this was a very important match for us and the points will weigh heavily."

Kevin Agudelo

and

Ebrima Colley

are both sidelined for at least a month; thus,

Janis Antiste

was deployed as a center-forward.

"I am satisfied with Antiste's work-rate, he has settled in very quickly and tries to help his teammates off the ball. He can improve in his finishing and we're trying to help him with that.

"M'Bala Nzola managed 15 minutes, he needs time to regain full fitness and ought to combine more with his teammates."
