Walter Mazzarri replaces Leonardo Semplici at Cagliari

According to multiple sources, Walter Mazzarri has joined Cagliari on a two-year deal to replace Leonardo Semplici as he was let go today.

Cagliari

decided to dismiss

Leonardo Semplici

after the club started the campaign with one point from three Serie A rounds.

Sunday’s 3-2 home loss to Genoa proved the final straw as they had been 2-0 up before conceding three goals in under 20 minutes.

Multiple resources are confident that

Walter Mazzarri

is the Sardinians’ favorite. They had a meeting today, in which he was offered a two-year contract at €2 million per season wages which includes performance-related bonuses.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Sportitalia, and more, Mazzarri has accepted the offer and signed the two-year contract.

It is €1.8 million per season net plus performance-related bonuses which takes it to €2 million.

Mazzarri is going to turn 60 next month and has not been working since he was dismissed by Torino in February 2020.

He has worked at Watford, Inter, Napoli, Sampdoria, Reggina, and Livorno.
