Atletico Madrid acquire Cunha’s services until 2026

The 22-year-old, who has attracted the attention of Leeds this summer, has penned a contract with the La Liga champions until 2026.

Atletico Madrid

acquired

Matheus Cunha

’s services from

Hertha Berlin

on a deal worth €26 million (£22m/$31m).

According to Goal, Atletico Madrid targeted the Brazilian striker after their pursuit of Fiorentina’s

Dusan Vlahovic

failed. They have completed a deal with Hertha Berlin over Cunha that will see the Brazilian stay at the club for the next five years.

The La Liga champions confirmed his arrival on the club’s official website, stating:

"Atlético de Madrid and Hertha BSC have reached an agreement over the transfer of Matheus Cunha. The Brazilian (May 27, 1999) has signed a five-year contract.

"Welcome, Matheus Cunha!"

Cunha can play as a centre forward, a winger and a No.10 as he has pace and an eye for goal. The 22-year-old impressed last season at Hertha and contributed to Brazil’s U23s gold at Tokyo Olympics this summer, meeting the back of the net three times and he may get through the senior team soon.

He is going to compete for a regular spot in the starting line-up with players like Luis Suarez and Angel Correa under the reign of Diego Simeone.

Cunha played in 40 matches for Hertha, finding the target 13 times and contributing 10 assists.

He may have his debut for Atletico when they go against Villarreal on Sunday.
