Borussia Dortmund’s Hummels close to returning to action

The Germany international announced that he may return to action when Borussia Dortmund prepare for their battle against SC Freiburg this weekend.

Mats Hummels

suffered a patellar tendon issue and he was out of action during

Borussia Dortmund

’s first three matches. However, he may make an appearance in the clash against

Freiburg

in the Bundesliga this weekend.

The 32-year-old provided an update on his injury before Borussia Dortmund’s DFL-Supercup battle against Bayern Munich on Tuesday.

The plan is that I will at least be there in Freiburg. That I will fly along, regardless of my role,”

 Hummels told

Sky

.

“I haven’t trained for a very long time now. Right now, everything is working well. Every step we take is working. I’ve now also joined parts of team training.”

Although it’s unlikely that Hummels returns to action against SC Freiburg, Borussia Dortmund would benefit from it as he brings in defensive security.

Thomas Meunier and Julian Brandt are also close to returning to the squad as their self-isolations have ended and they started training. According to Ruhr Nachrichten, Thorgan Hazard is not going to feature for his side against SC Freiburg as he is dealing with an ankle injury.

Emre Can and Raphael Guerreiro are also going to return but it is uncertain whether they will come back this weekend. Dan-Axel Zagadou, Soumaila Coulibaly, Nnamdi Collins and Mateu Morey are still sidelined.
