Buffon warns Donnarumma as he opens up about Man United mistake

During his interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, the 43-year-old talked about the mistake he made with the Red Devils, warning Gigio Donnarumma: ‘Nothing is forgiven to the best ones.’

Gigi Buffon

went back to Parma after 20 years from his move to

Juventus

.

He played in 17 seasons in Turin, making a move to

Paris Saint-Germain

when he hit free agency in 2018.

The shot-stopper played for one season there, appearing in 25 matches, before going back to Juventus where he stayed for two more years.

During his time in Paris, he made a mistake in the Champions League round of 16’s second leg against

Manchester United

. He fluffed a routine catch which allowed Romelu Lukaku to help United take the lead.

I played a great season in Paris, I made that mistake in the Champions League. It was costly, but we didn’t lose that game 1-0, we lost it 3-1. It was a bad night for everybody,”

he told

La Gazzetta dello Sport

.

The truth is I’ve been walking on thin ice since I was 17. It happened at Juventus, PSG and it will happen in Parma because I am going ahead and somebody doesn’t like it,”

he continued.

“The truth is nothing is ever forgiven to the best ones, they are just waiting for you to fail.

“It will happen to (Gianluigi) Donnarumma as well, but he must remain calm, because he is so strong. It will go well for him in Paris, even more than well. We texted each other during the Euros, discussing PSG and more.”

Gigio Donnarumma

moved to PSG from

Milan

when he became a free agent.

Buffon believes that the shot-stopper ‘has become a point of reference worldwide’ after his impressive performance at Euro 2020. Buffon would also hope to join the 22-year-old in the 2022 World Cup with Italy squad.
