David Alaba hopes to link up with Man Utd target Varane at Real Madrid

Real Madrid’s new signing David Alaba has said he would love to play alongside Manchester United target Raphael Varane.

The Austrian defender joined

Real Madrid

on a free transfer after a decade with Bundesliga giants

Bayern Munich

, where he won 27 trophies.

Alaba

was signed as a replacement for

Sergio Ramos

, who left the club to join

Paris Saint-Germain

after 16 years.

Raphael Varane

, whose current deal at Bernabeu is set to expire in June 2022, is

Manchester United

’s top defensive target for this summer’s transfer window and the Frenchman is close to the exit doors.

However, the Austria international has revealed his admiration for Varane and hopes the french center-back does not follow in Ramos’ footsteps and leave the club.

"I would have loved to play with Ramos, of course," he told reporters. "He is a leader, it would have been a pleasure.

"Varane, of course I would like to play with him. He is a player who has played excellent football.

"He is a great defender and has very good qualities. "

Alaba explained he has spoken to Ramos about wearing his shirt number at Santiago Bernabeu.

"Ramos was here for a decade and has played football very well wearing this number and has become a leader,"

he said.

"It is something that is present in everyone's head.

"He spoke to me. I was told that it is the last available number and I did not want to ask other players for their number. I feel honored and it is a great motivation for me."
