Marco Rossi becomes a Hungary hero

Marco Rossi made a significant achievement when his side held the world champions to a 1-1 draw, but he was going to give up management in 2012.

France

are among the favorites to be Euro 2020 winners, having grabbed the World Cup title in 2018.

However,

Hungary

drew the clash against Les Bleus this afternoon.

Attila Fiola

scored the opener for his side and gave them a lead which was equalized by

Antoine Griezmann

.

Like their 1-0 victory over Germany, France missed many goal chances. The draw is a remarkable achievement for Hungary and Italian coach

Marco Rossi

, who admitted he would be “working in my brother’s business consultancy right now if I had stayed in Italy.”

Following his experiences at Scafatese and Cavese, he was prepared to call it quits.

I received three proposals, but they said I’d basically have to pay my own wages in advance in order to work in Serie C. I was disgusted. This too happens in Italy,”

he told the

Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno

newspaper.

The 56-year-old’s career took off when he went to Hungary to visit a friend and decided to take the first step himself.

“For the first time in my life, I decided to propose myself to a club. I called Fabio Cordella, the Italian director of sport at Honved Budapest, and it all started from there.”

He started getting attention when he led Honved to their first league title after 24 years and was awarded as the Hungarian Coach of the Year in 2017.

When Hungary failed to get qualified for the World Cup in 2018, they appointed Rossi, who has now held the world champions to a 1-1 draw.
