Lorenzo Pellegrini misses the Euro 2020

Italy coach will have to use Castrovilli instead of injured Lorenzo Pellegrini.

Lorenzo Pellegrini

has missed the Euro 2020 due to a thigh injury, and

Italy’s

head coach

Roberto Mancini

is going to use Fiorentina’s high-profile midfielder

Gaetano Castrovilli

in his squad instead of the Roma Roma star.

Pellegrini, who has impressed clubs like Barcelona and Liverpool, was going to experience his first international tournament in Mancini’s squad, but he was injured in training. He played three games for Italy in the qualifying games with Verratti, Jorginho, and Barella, and Mancini has been counting on him for the Euro 2020 after his impressive season in the Serie A, scoring seven goals and providing six assists.

"Unfortunately this damn thigh problem will not allow me to play this European Championship,"

the 24-year-old wrote on his official Instagram account

.

"There is a lot of bitterness right now ... but it is now that we need to hug even more and cheer on this fantastic group of real men who will surely give their souls to every game from start to finish.

"I believe it. Come on guys, come on Italy. All together."

In the absence of important midfielders like Verratti, Pellegrini could have been a key part of Mancini’s tactical plans considering his quality which he has shown in his club games this season, convincing Barcelona and Liverpool to make links with the player for a possible transfer, but now he must watch the games from home hoping that Castrovilli would fill his place properly for his national team.
